How to crowdsource test cases execution without login?

Postby osarrat » Thu Feb 12, 2015 4:53 pm

Hi everyone,

On the Sigmah project, we plan to use TL to manage our test cases. We are an open source project in which we try (and succeed sometimes!) to involve our end users into testing, as well as feature design, etc. Our end users are humanitarian workers who are not used too much to all the online tools that developers are used to.

So far, we have used simple public wiki pages to reference all our testcases, example: https://code.google.com/p/sigma-h/wiki/ ... Management
Wiki is doing the job but naturally full of inconvenients, so we want to improve by using TL.
To involve our end users, we open for each beta-test of a new release a specific forum, and a G. Spreadsheet to coordinate openly the testing effort. Example of G. Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing
This is our current solution for publicly crowdsourcing our testing effort.

With TL, I didn't find any solution to have such a basic public page will all test cases as this G. Spreadsheet.

Who could have a solution for that?
Did I miss somewhere some configuration option?
Has anyone been able to use a CMS (like Spip or other) to produce such a page by plugin on TL DB?

Thanks for having read this topic.

In order to execute a test case user has to login to system, this is only way audit data like tester name can be recorded.
What you can do to avoid this to users is generate to xml file that allow import results, and ask people to send back results
But if you go this way, will be again not a comfortable way for not tech users, then you return to the starting point : the spreadsheet hell.

what is not clear for me is:
if you are not able to engage people to login to test, how are you able to engage them to read the test cases with steps & expected results, and then follow instructions as requested ?

may be a solution can be something similar to access to reports without login, providing any user a key that they have to add to the URL to allow login without providing user/password.
But after this user has to follow normal test link workflow.

Thanks for your quick reply, which give new ideas to consider.

I'll see how to manage this and provide my conclusion on the thread. There is also a question of UI and simplicity. I'll see.

Thanks a lot!
