import test categories to pre-existing components, help

Postby testlinker » Tue Jun 13, 2006 3:15 pm

hi,

first of all i gotta say that TestLink is amazing. has simplified so many things for test management here. love it. I have imported a bunch of testcases into TestLink so system looks something like this

exists:

-> component 1
-----> cat 1
---------> tc 1
---------> tc 2
---------> tc 3
-----> cat 2
---------> tc 10
---------> tc 11
---------> tc 12

want to add:

-> component 1
-----> cat 3
---------> tc 20
---------> tc 21

i want to import few more categories for component 1, how can i go about doing that? I\\\'ve tried to do an import normally, but what happens is that \\\"component 1\\\" gets added again w/ the new categories

so instead of looking like this; (pay attention to cat 3)

-> component 1
-----> cat 1
---------> tc 1
---------> tc 2
---------> tc 3
-----> cat 2
---------> tc 10
---------> tc 11
---------> tc 12
-----> cat 3
---------> tc 20
---------> tc 21

it looks like this; (pay attention to cat 3)

-> component 1
-----> cat 1
---------> tc 1
---------> tc 2
---------> tc 3
-----> cat 2
---------> tc 10
---------> tc 11
---------> tc 12

-> component 1
-----> cat 3
---------> tc 20
---------> tc 21

any suggestions are most welcome,
thanks.

The problem is our import feature is right now a little brain-less i.e. does not
check for component existence.
He/she always create a new component.

Please be patiente, we will try to improve this on 1.7
