TestLink 1.8.1 installation problem

Postby mukul » Sat Apr 18, 2009 1:51 pm

Hi,

I am trying to install TestLink for the first time and facing few problems.

The config:
OS: Debian 5 (Lenny)
TestLink: 1.8.1
WebServer: Apache2
DB: MySQL
PHP: PHP5

I've successfully installed Apache and PHP5 and tested too.
Following components of MySQL are installed:
mysql-client-5.1.33-2
mysql-common-5.1.33-2
mysql-server-5.1.33-2
php5-mysql 5.2.6.dfsg.1-1+lenny2
libmysqlclient16 (5.1.33-2)

Issue:
In "Read/Write permissions" section, I am getting errors in:
Checking if /var/www/testlink/logs directory is writable. FAILED

This msg is coming for all writable permission checks.

Please help me move ahead. Thanks

Hi Mukul,

What are the permissions on the directory /var/www/testlink/logs?

The error messages is complaining that this folder is not writable for the user apache is running as, not for you.

You'll need to correct that (google chmod) for your installation.

Hi,

I've already tried chmod.
I gave user permission that didnt work. Then I changed it to root and even this failed.

And I think in Debian Lenny its not possible to login as root.

Any other option??

Thanks for reply.

Check Pg 9 of the installation manual

You must allow write access to directories where TestLink expect to write. Change the
permissions of the templates_c, upload_area and logs directory to be writeable by
the web server. Linux/UNIX run from the TestLink root directory
# chmod 777 gui/templates_c
# chmod 777 logs
# chmod 777 upload_area

Which user did you grant permissions? Which user is apache running as?

what does
Code: Select all
ls -l /var/www/testlink/logs
return

Code: Select all
chmod 777

Thanks it worked! Now the only failures on the installation page are "Checking Postgres Database" and "Checking LDAP library " but I think these are optional.

But now, after giving the credentials for:
Database login: mysql
Database password:
TestLink DB login: admin
TestLink DB password: admin

and accepting the license, I am getting the following error.
Code: Select all
Please check the database login details and try again.
Database Error Message: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

I think there's something wrong with the MySQL config.

Check Google/MySQL's website for that one as there may be many potential problems (mis-config, permissions, mysql not started)
