Import of already written excel-testcases

Postby Lucky-Joe » Mon Jan 02, 2006 6:38 pm

Hi at all,

I have already installed the testlin-system 1.6 and i am surprised about the system but i miss an import-functionality of already written testcases.
So does anybody have a solution how it could be possible to import excel-sheets ?

regards
Joe

Hey, Francisco, I think that Excel is really good product. I studied Chemical technology and I used it really often. Of course it is proprietal. :(

Lucky-Joe,
Let us know, if you cannot use the current import solution. Maybe there is a problem for your case. But generally it should be working.

Martin

About Excel

Postby fman » Wed Jan 04, 2006 5:42 pm

well, well talking about Excel. I\'m not saying it\'s not a good tool.
It\'s an SpreadSheet Tool, and may be the easier tool to write something
and export the contents as CSV.
I don\'t like is when is used as a word processor, or as the only tool
in the world.

enough about excel

Major rework required!

Postby scorpfromhell » Wed Feb 01, 2006 3:58 pm

Without getting on the topic of M$ is bad or Excel shud only b a spreadsheet (though I wud like a lot to discuss on this  ), here is the way to do it if you have your test cases already written in Excel:

1) Copy your excel to a new file (so that you have a backup)
2) Remove all your columns and keep only the columns corresponding to Component, Category, Summary, Steps & Expected results of TestLink.
3) Save this file as CSV file.
4) Import this file into TestLink.

This could cause you problems if you have carriage returns in the text in your excel cells. If you have such cells (text with carriage returns) dont bother, just copy your test cases manually. :( Sadly, this is how we had to move nearly 4500 test cases from Excel to TestLink. But now that it is done, we are very happy :D
Regards,
Prem

documentation of import feature

Postby pyang » Sat Feb 04, 2006 12:38 am

Hi all,

From what documentation could I get detailed description of import feature? I read the 5.4.1 Import requirements in User Manual, but it\'s kind of vague.

Can anybody provide a sample file?

Thanks a lot

I could use help with this too. What format is the CSV supposed to be in, meaning, How many columns is it expecting? Which columns relate to which values?

I\'ve studied the documentation and the forum but I\'m still not able to import test cases. Not even your examples.
When I click the Upload file button, I can see the browser searching for tcImport.php for a millisecond. But, besides the file-location inputfield being cleared, nothing happens.
Am I missing something here?

Could you verify that import files is not disallowed by your system (php, apache)?
1.6.0 is working fine for me.

Did any of you resolve this?

Postby rhutchinson » Wed Apr 26, 2006 5:31 pm

I cannot import test cases or requirements either. Have any of you resolved this? Is there a place to find error messages that I am missing?

I have mediawiki installed on the same machine (using php) and uploads work fine with it.

1. Be more descriptive, what you experience
2. Set logging to Debug mode and look if there is not some interesting info.

I see the same thing JeroenDockx was seeing on March 9. The page refreshes attempting to load /lib/testcases/tcimport.php but nothing changes and the page that says \"Choose a local File to Upload\" is still displayed.

I set logging to debug and no errors are thrown that I see. Here are the logfile contents. If there is other log information you need, let me know where it is.

basehref|s:18:\"http://10.0.0.253/\";locale|s:5:\"en_GB\";user|s:8:\"testlink\";userID|s:2:\"20\";email|s:21:\"XXXXatXXXX.com\";roleId|i:8;role|s:5:\"admin\";productID|s:1:\"1\";productName|s:9:\"Member ST\";productColor|s:7:\"#99FFFF\";productOptReqs|s:1:\"1\";productOptPriority|s:1:\"1\";filter_tp_by_product|i:1;testPlanId|s:1:\"2\";testPlanName|s:16:\"Revenue Deferral\";

OS= Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
Webserver = Apache 2.0.55
PHP = 5.1.2

I just looked it up and found that PHP 5 isn\'t officially supported. Could this be the issue?

I also have same problem. I am not expert of Apache, PHP and MySql. I could install everything and I am really happy of TestLink. But I really need the import functionality working, as I already have lot of test cases already prepared.

I guess we have some problems in server configuratio. How can we verify that import files is not disallowed by our system (php, apache)?
Thank you

Log File for failed import

Postby rhutchinson » Tue Jun 27, 2006 9:24 pm

THere are two log files created when I turn DEBUG on in testlink

The first is userlog21.log and the 2nd is userlog0.log The contents of each are below. One other thing to note is that I have mediawiki installed and uploads work fine with it and it uses the same php/apache installation.

I have given \"everyone\" full permissions to the temp folder c:\\windows\\temp and to the testlink installation folder.
