Re: export testsuite and import back with updates
How I do that is that If I have to update or overwrite test cases use the same xls file which I used to generate the XML and import the test cases and while importing use the option to overwrite test cases if same tc found , just ensure the tc id are same on which u want to update the test cases

Re: XML generator for TL 1.9
Just one more added info for the xml generator, you need to create an ODBC Connection in your system which connects to the Database you use, because I am using the same connection in the macro code in XML to verify the existing test cases in the Testlink DB to avoid any duplication of test cases whi...

Re: TESTLINK 1.9 integration with JIRA 4.1
I would not recommend this approach, best would be to enable the API's on JIRA and then use the JIRASOAP Plugin to connect to JIRA rather than fiddling with the db statements.

Re: build in bug# field
Bug Field is enabled only on enabling a tracker for integrating with Testlink else it wont display. In case you want a field otherwise use a custom field for the same at the time of execution. this way u can have a field to store the bug id if u dont want to connect to a bug tracking system.

issue not clear.... be more verbose / steps ?
have u defined a build for the test plan and added test cases / assigned to user for execution
put a snap shot for more details.
