I am at a complete loss as to how I should fix this error.

I'm running L A M P on a RedHat Linux box.

Error during installation: Checking if sessions are properly configured: Failed!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is checking if TL can write into variable $_SESSION. It seems that your php settings disallow it. Look at something like register global directive.
