Blank page on new auto install of 1.9.7

Hello. I have done a fresh install of 1.9.7 on my LAMP server (shared).
When I log in, I see the banner but not the main page.
Looking at the source I can see that there are two frame sets, the upper one indeed loads the navBar.php but the main frame does not load mainPage.php.
If I paste the mainPage.php URL directly in to the browser, I get a blank page, nothing in the source of that page, and the URL points to this one:

if this is a fresh install something has very strange and wrong has happened.
My suggestion is:
1. restart from scratch
2. get bitnami Virtual machine

you need also to provide as much as possible info regarding your installation:

Operating Systema & version
PHP version
Database used & version
