XML Sample Format

Post by Gordon »

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the great work you are all doing on Testlink!

We have recently upgraded to Testlink 1.9.1 and I am battling to use the import feature for test suites.
I understand that Testlink no longer supports the *.xls format.

I was wondering if anyone has a sample of an *.xml file which I can use to import test suites?

I know that Testlink does come with some samples, but whenever I try to export them from Excel (even without editing them), I get this error:
[filename] is not exportable because is contains the following:
Denormalised data

I'd be so grateful to anyone who can solve this!

Thanks
Gordon

I suggest you to go through the help files how you can open the xml file through excel sheet and then save it back to xml,

and the other option is cretae a test case and export it for the sml., if you do not want to use the samples that provided.
Thanks,

Thanks Amaradana.

I went through the documentation.
I followed the these steps (I am using Excel 2010):

1. Create sample tests in Testlink
2. Export to XML
3. Open a blank Excel workbook
4. Click Developer tab --> XML section --> Import
5. Select file from step 2
6. Exported test suites is displayed correctly in Excel
7. Click Developer tab --> XML section --> Export
8. The message "Cannot save or export XML data. The XML maps are not exportable" is displayed.

Is this perhaps an incompatibility with Excel & the new XML format?
If so then are there any other XML editors which let you edit the XML in a table format?

Thanks
Gordon

Hi npontes,

Even I am facing same problem. Using excel 2007 and testlink 1.9.1

What I understood after google on this topic, Sample xml which we export from testlink have list of lists data, when we open this xml in excel and try to save file in excel then the problem"Cannot save or export XML data. The XML maps are not exportable" is come.
I am still looking for if there is any solution for to export list of lists data from xml.
Let me know if you know something about it now.

Thanks
Anita

Hi all,
I am new to Testlink Forum, but just crossed or faced the same problem as gorden

I export one Testcase as XML and open it in Excel (acc to the testlink document "Impot/Export file formats chapter 2.9)
If i want to save as / or export it back in Excel, its not possible due to the
known Excel Errors saying "Cannot be exported due to "denormalized Data" and " List of Lists
I am using Restlink 1.7.4 and Excel 2007 & 2010
Acc to Microsoft
http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/excel ... 06401.aspx
the export of ""denormalized Data" and " List of Lists" is not supported:
Additionally, the XML mapping cannot be exported if it contains one of the following XML schema constructs:
List of lists One list of items contains a second list of items.
Denormalized data An XML table contains an element that has been defined in the schema to occur once (the maxoccurs attribute is set to 1). When you add such an element to an XML table, Excel fills the table column with multiple instances of the elementAdditionally, the XML mapping cannot be exported if it contains one of the following XML schema constructs
In older versions, which my collegues are using, it seemed to work , but in 1.9.x something has changed

Any news here ?
