Introductions

Post by Conradb »

Hi , I'm joining in from the UK. I've been an automation test engineer for ~ 15 years now, with C++ background 15 years before that, so I'm still 50% a coder right now. I am in a new job where the last person installed Testlink 1.9.15 , so I have inherited a configuration which I don't yet understand. But at least it's a very simple set.

I am still reading the tutorials out there and reading the guide threads under http://forum.testlink.org/viewforum.php?f=14 , so no doubt I will have questions about how best to use the tool going forward. The Terminology is a bit strange to me because I have always been in a team that built their own test execution and management systems, so I've still got a bit more ramp-up learning to do. But so far the program seems to be doing good things. We have a mix of manual and automated testing, but the automated testing just does not seem to be able to fit into the Testlink functionality, I hope I can somehow work out how to do that or at least come up with a halfway good test recording and management solution eventually.

Thanks for sharing your thoughs
First step to do: upgrade to code present in branch tl.19.19.01

Regarding test automation
this is not TestLink target, but I'm doing test automation (end to end) for web app using testcafe from devexpress.
One chance in the future will be integrate at least the result of automatic runs into test case.
Going to have a talk at CFCAMP2019

Thanks Francisco

I'm still poking around on the edges, and when I do find how to make a server backup and get onto the machine to run the upgrade steps, I will be giving that a try. I am very keen to learn how the system normally behaves before I upgrade and then have a very small point of reference. We have 3 projects, mine is the smaller one, but the most active one, so I hope to get my way.

The web side of business is not connected to me, so the only use I have for selenium engine is the page model used for IOS/Android apps, under Appium. But that model of testing breaks down for desktop applications although I want to try and find ways of using page model for desktop apps because that does simplify the UI testers and the end-to-end testers life a lot. :-)
