1.9 available in August? Requirements tree implemented?

Post by uwe.richter »

Hello,

we are planning to use testlink.
Therfore we need to organize the requirments in a tree structure.
As I have read, this is possible in the version 1.9.

So my question is, when 1.9 is really available?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Regards,

Uwe

We'd also like to know if things are still on track for 1.9 release in August...

We're currently in the final stages of picking a tool.
I am pushing strongly for us to go with TestLink, but improved requirement handling (including tree structure) and initial state field in test cases (see tracker #2630) are two of the things we'd really like. If we at least know the planned release data for 1.9 then I can probably get management to hold off until then before making the decision.

Planned release date?

Post by deepakarora79 »

Hi,
We're also in the same boat of finalizing a tool for test management and are waiting for the 1.9 release. Mainly looking for the improved requirement management feature (tree).

Can someone from TL dev team update on the current progress and the planned release date?

I see October as reasonable term. August is too short.
The progress of new feature implementation is slow. TL team spends too much time with bug fixing and refactoring. TL is complex system now. Small change could have a lot of dependencies.
Nice example is Tree structure for requirements. It is already implemented in 1.8 version and works well. However there are hidden dependencies like Import/Export, etc. It waiting for more update to be comfortable.
Bad news regarding SRS functionality: guys who was active at the begin of 1.9 development didn't contribute code. So we have only design now. I'm sceptic that there will be significant amount of new features. Full support for SRS tree would be here.

I am also looking for the release 1.9. as the features when i see in the tracker, they are great. and also surfices to some of my/company needs, as i made the mangemnet to compramise many of the things that they asked me when we are trying to evaluate the testlink. I said 1.9 version would surfice our some of the problems. Now we are in the final step, performance test.
There were 14000 cases that needs to be dumped, offcourse nearly 8000 cases i already done, but the work was not yet started. if we are not facing any performance problem i would love to implement in my company in several projects.

Just an Update, we started doing performance test, when i dump all my 14000 test cases, the tree loading is a bit slow its taking from 6 to 7 sec approx. I tried by changing the EXT JS to the other tree components like layersmenu, dtree, all are slow, i also observed that in results also its taking to generate, are there any performance fixes in 1.9.

I did indexing, there is no improvement in the performance, Please suggest if anything else can be done.
Thanks,

EXT-JS will be only tree component supported for 1.9.
regarding performance 14.000 seems lot of test for a single test project.
I do not know if we need to rework tree build algorithm in some way that will improve performance

I am not sure what to reply for your reponse, as i knew all are so busy with 1.9 features. But in long term obviously when will you use it for long term, currently discussion are going to implement testlink or not, as i have no idea, now our test cases are 18000. I have not imported. but we are trying to implement for other projects which have like 5000 to 6000 cases.

October was mentioned above for the launch of 1.9...
Since we are now nearing the end of October, and haven't seen any further updates, I am guessing that it isn't going to make it.
Can anyone give us an idea of what the revised timeline might be?? We really are hanging out for this and senior management is getting tired of us delaying any decision while we wait for the release of 1.9.
If 1.9 is going to be significantly delayed, is there any chance that tracker #2630 could make it in to an earlier (1.8.5) release? (We can wait for the requirements tree, but porting over our existing cases really does need there to be an initial state field)

So, does TL 1.9 2b have the improved requirement management feature (tree)?

My company is tired of waiting now for this feature :(

Can someone update me so that I can try to buy some more time for TL deployment?
