Relation between Platform/Inventory & Project

Hi!
I'm a newbie with TestLink and I need some explanations to help me in the way of his implementation in my QA Team.
First of all, I don't understand the link between Platform/Inventory and a Project.
It is really interesting to define some platforms and link them to a project but why can't we link one platform to multiple projects ?
In the User Manual, a platform is define as a concept like a browser, an OS... but I can use the same browser for different projects.
Or in TestLink, I have to create the same platform in each project.
Same thing for the inventory.
I have to create the data for each project even if this is the same machine or VM.
I don't see why we can't share device or a platform between differents projects.
Who can explain this ?
