Custom fields: increase characters into multiselection list

Hi,
actually the number of character allowed for a custom field multiselection list type is only 255. I need to increase it. I've already found a way to increase the number of character for a custom field text area type (http://www.teamst.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2836), but nothing related to multiselection list type.
Can you please help me? I have to do that, otherwise I'll have a big problem!!
