Test Version Management

Hi all,
I have some doubts about the Testplan and its Builds Management and I want to ask you something about this topic.
During tests execution of a Testplan, some tests become obsolete and want to create new versions of them. The problem is that I cannot modify their version because they are excuted. I want to update the version of this executed tests and also to execute them in the following builds without lost the previous executions.
Following this, there is an option "Update Linked Test Case Versions". Do you know how it works?. If you upgrade the version of a test, what would happen with the executions of the previous versions?
Thanks and Regards
