I would like to thank the Testlink Group for developing a fantastic product, which has changed my opinion on open source tools.
At Testpoint we are very careful about the products we use. In the past 10 years we have only looked at products from IBM/COMPUWARE and HP.
I have seen companies spend up to 100k only to use simple testcase management functionality, which can be managed better, by using Testlink.
Our main client is one of Australia's largest Superannuation providers which prior to consulting Testpoint was committed to one of the main test tool vendors which I mentioned above and unfortunately had no Return on Investment, struggled to implement any real reusable test suites and more importantly it couldn’t have all testers logged in at once as the cost per license for a growing project was way too high to convince the business to invest in.
I am not saying that the leading vendors do not supply good tools, absolutely not! I still support them and recommend them when the Testing Maturity is right and you require an enterprise solution, but most companies/test teams who invest their entire budget on testing tools only find out that their methodology isn’t stable or the team has no dedicated testing process, which all tools require.
By using Testlink 1.75, I was able to by-pass budget issues to support 45 testers as the tool is free and I could focus more on improving the testing maturity to understand how to gain maximum value from Testcase management tools rather than using the traditional excel spreadsheet concept management on some file server.
After a staged implementation approach the results have been excellent and testers feedback have been fantastic. Our testing maturity has improved dramatically, by staging workshops and implementing key process improvement points to the team/s.
At first I was after a temporary solution by using Testlink in order to improve our processes and testing, however our teams love it and testcase reusability has improved dramatically. Managers and more senior staff can easily see what testcases have been executed and what test plans have been developed per release. We are now rolling Testlink out to the business analyst teams so they can plug-in to the requirements management process thus, making Testlink more valuable to our process improvement strategy.
Many thanks to the Testlink team. Please speed up Testlink 1.9; we can’t wait for the new features.
If anybody requires implementation support relating to Testlink or simply would like to understand how we have transformed a large test team which was struggling to complete releases on time to a productive efficient team which has had the all thumbs up from two independent audit companies, then drop me an email to: info@testpoint.com.au or visit us: www.testpoint.com.au
Thanks,
Fadi Hawli
