Customization: How to change Title length and hide text area

We are planning to start using TestLink, but want to make a couple of changes so that it better suits our environment/process. We want to hide one of the text areas (E.g. Summary) and also change the max length for the test case title. Can anyone provide any insight into how to make these changes? For both, I have made several attempts to make the change, but have so far not found the right combination to make it work.
