Test case environment

Post by Ilissan »

Are there any possibilities in TestLink to describe testing environment?
Such that each Test case may be executed on several environments (OS, Platform, datasets etc.).
Can I describe somewhere these configurations and make some sets of testcases linked to configurations in TestPlan?

I have the same problem...

I'm experiencing the same problem and I'm not able to find a reasonable solution. How can I execute one test case several times on several environments, without creating duplicate test cases?

Thank you.

I use Test Suite to defined one or more configuration sets. TC jsut specify which one is used.
BTW: we plan to have more sophisticated TC structure in future.

Can you please explain how you use custom field exactly?
We have 8 platforms for most tests, which means we'll have to run our tests 8 times each. How does that reflect in the reports? How can we see which platforms have been covered and which tests are left to run on which platform?

thank you.

Are there good way to get this done? I think I've got the same problem.
Any suggestions will be thankful!

Did anyone get a good answer on this question?
I am currently thinking to use different Builds per environment ?!?!?

I had the same question while ago and I think I've reported it as a bug, so such feature be added in the future.

Anyhow, the work around is to add a section in test-plan and test-suit definition/summary for test environment. Put all common environment for all test cases in test plan and for some that need special environment you can add them in test suite definition. If still there are some exception cases, add the extra test environment in either summary or Steps of test case.

I even had to add sections for "Glossary", "References", "Test environment diagram", "Approvals" in my Test Plan definitions.

I asked administrators of testlink community to consider adding above necessary sections in the future releases. I hope they will be implemented some time soon. I have been involved some heavy projects recently, so have no idea, if any of above features is added in new releases.

Cheers,
Ali

There is already request(s) to care about 'platforms' during execution. We already done analyze and hopefully Erik will deliver the feature into 1.9 version.
