Does MySQL schema change between TestLink 1.7 and 1.8.4?

Post by hamdodger »

I am trying to migrate a TestLink 1.7 server to a new, clean install of TestLink 1.8.4 on a different server.

If I simply export the data from the TestLink DB on the 1.7 server, and import it into the 1.8.4 server, will that work?

Schema changed. Read Installation manual at first :-(

If I do apply the TestLink 1.8.x database upgrade to the schema underneath my current TestLink 1.7.x install, will that break TestLink? Would I then have to move my server to 1.8.x?

My question is if you are trying to install a new clean copy of 1.8.4... why to migrate? Just install the testlink 1.8.4. Hope this answer will help you.

Well, my current TestLink install (1.7.x) is installed on a server that's hosting a number of other services, so I'm trying to get TestLink migrated over to a dedicated server. Additionally the server it's on is running a very out-of-date OS (CentOS 4.x).

Our current Testlink is installed under /var/www/html/testlink. If I were to install the new files under /var/www/html/testlink_1.8.4 and run the schema update from that new directory, could I then get rid of the old /testlink directory and move the /testlink_1.8.4 to /testlink? Or are there some config files from the original /testlink directory that I would need to make sure don't get overwritten to preserve the settings? The only one I can think of is the custom.config.php file.

Note that centos4 officially do not support PHP 5.2, that is mandatory for TL 1.8. Reading of Installation manual doesn't harm you ;-)
