Filtering on custom fields in the navigator pane

Hi, is there a way to filter when creating test plans or when editing test cases using custom fields? I know I can filter on executing tests.

We have a custom fields for test 'depth', for example: 'acceptance'. When creating a test plan or editing test cases, we would like to filter on this field.

If you suggest how I can edit the code to provide this, it might be helpful.

I have a similar requirement for 1.8.2 version, I want to add custom fields to the specification tab and would appreciate if anyone can let us know how to do it. What file should I be changing?

If it has been addressed in later versions, please let us know as well.
