upate Custom field: need to upate Type.

While updating the custom fields, Type is readonly. I need to change the string Type to list Type. how do i do it?
I have create a new custom field with list Type and use it in testcase page. But this will become a duplicate field. i.e. there will be 2 fields for the same purpose.
Incase if i unassign the old custom field, then data associated with that will be lost.


so i need to edit the type of the custom field. please help me.
