TestLink 1.6.3 - Installation problem ?

Post by Clarkee21 »

Hi there,

I've just installed TestLink and I'd like to demostrate it as a solution for our testing procedures.

I'm working through the manual and online demo but I'm seeing a lot of references to options I don't seem to have in my local copy. Even in the administrator!

For example I don't have:
- Execute & Results at the top
- The RHS blue area says "Test Suite - unavailable (You don't have permissions for any Test Suites)" even in administrator.

I'm missing a lot of options on the RHS of the main screen which appear in the demo. I just have "Create Test Suite" and "Edit / Delete Test Suite" in the Test Suite Management section. I don't have a "Test Execution" or "Test Case Suite".

Are these something that I've missing in the installation or have I missed something when I've been doing my test plan setup.

Thanks,
James

As usual my suggestion is install 1.7 because it will become the only supported release in the shortime.

Please remember that features are enable using user ROLE.
Try to use an administrator user.

Thanks for the fast reply fman. As I say though these problems are appearing in the main Administrator as well as the other roles.

I'm probably not going to have time to upgrade as I'm needing to report back tomorrow on this. The other alternative is we start logging all our tests in a spreadsheet and word documents if I can't green light this :(.

The other thing is that the online demo is using 1.6.2 and shows all these features.

Should I be seeing these the moment I go into TestLink or do they appear once I've set something up (i.e. my test cases etc.)?

Cheers again,
James

IMHO, your best option is upgrade to 1.7, because is really easy.

You can go this way:

1. continue on 1.6.3
2. make a 1.7.0 RC3 fresh install
3. Now you have 2 DBs.
4. Upgrade 1.6.3 to 1.7, this WILL NOT TOUCH YOUR Original 1.6.3 DB

Hope this can help

Thanks once again Francisco.

I've got a bit of an extension so I'm going to give it a shot.

1. Good, let me know when all will be over
2. If you can try to add your company to the forum
3. You can get more info if you get document SRS from TL CVS on sourceforge, There is one module about documentation.

It's actually a University with about 20-30 members of staff involved in the project so the message should hopefully spread through this piece of work. I'll bare it in mind though and I'm looking to implement this in future projects ;)

So far I'm fairly impression and our Project Manager is coming around as well.

Could you give me a direct link to the documentation? I'm looking but I can't find a reference to the documentation, just the source code, sorry.

Cheers again,
James
