Question on Automation in Testlink

Post by btowle »

Hi all,

I am sorry if this is a stupid question but I can't find anything on it.
If you set a test to be automated can you still run it as a normal test (Hit update results and mark it as pass etc?)

The reason I ask is I am getting the following error when I try to manually submit test results to an automated tests:
Remote Test Case Execution Feedback
Remote execution can not be launched due to missing configuration.\nPlease check if the required Custom Fields are defined and assigned to this Product-Line
The reason this concerns me is I was under the impression that automation was done by allowing an program access to TL in order to record the test results, versus TL actually running anything.
This error makes it look like TL is trying to run a script. So I am really confused now, I get the xml/rpc thing (that is working fine) but

So my questions are these:
1) Can an "automated test" be updated manually?
2) Does Test link launch a program to run an automated tests, or does it simply allow a third party program access (through xml/rpc) to set the result?
3) If Test link actually launches a program where can I find documentation on this? I haven't been able to find it in the user docs.

I am sorry if these are re-treads but I haven't been able to find any more information and I am confused by the testlink error saying remote execution cannot be launched.

Thanks,
Brad Towle

Please follow a simple rule that will help others: when you find something that unfortunately was hidden, put the pointer to the info or document here.
Would you mind to

1. put the pointer ?
2. write down the answers you have find for your questions
