exporting testplan/build to excel

Has anyone been able to do this? if so can you provide the steps used to this export process!

Or a way to run a sql query and convert the result set to cvs, I'd be happy with that as well

The idea behind this export is to be able to create a test results XML file to be imported after those test cases are executed.

I would prefer to work off an excel sheet then import the results!

you are reinventing the wheel because there is a XML format to work with results.
look on documentation for 1.8.3

I dont follow what you mean by "reinventing the wheel", as stated I want to be able to execute my test cases by using an excel doc to minimize how many clicks to complete my 100's of test cases... I'm familiar with that doc and the import format that not my problem.... I'm looking for an export solution first!
