!!! Excel to TestLink XML HOW TO !!!

Post by Misima »

Thanks to edias now I know how to perform export from Excel to Testlink easily:
Excel to TestLink XML HOW TO:

1. You just need to create 1 or 2 testcases on using GUI.
2. Then export those testcases, the exported file is testcases.xml.
3. Open that .xml file with MS Excel.
4. When you open it, choose the option "Use the XML source task pane".
5. Then you will see the XML map in XML Source window.
6. Click and drag the elements to the excel sheet.
7. Eg. if you want name to be your first column, click and drag "name" element to 1A grid so that the column A will be "name" column.

After you try importing it
And it really works.
Hurray! :D

Can't find this option in Excel 2002

Post by Malte »

I can't find the option "Use the XML source task pane" in my (old) Excel. Is this something that was added in Excel 2007?

Thanks

I am testing this on a new installation of TestLink, for evaluation purposes. Extremely frustrating time, and i havne't even turned it over to users yet.

The macro from gk1981 for test cases works (except steps are not imported). I fiddled slightly with the VBA to allow one step per case. the macro for requirements has to be imported from Requirement Operations, not from Requirement Specifications. so in requirements you have to create a folder (section) first and then do the import into it, no problem.

And they can be imported in either order, contrary to my earlier observation.
