Hint: Connection trouble caused by db port number

During an update of our TL server we encountered and solved a strange problem. Maybe this description might help you with similiar issues.

For specifixc reasons both our TestLink- and our Jira- postgres database servers are not addressable via the standard port number 5432 but are installed to listen to port 5500.

I didn't know that when I installed TestLink almost a year ago and everything went perfect when I only entered the appropriate hostname in ~/config_db.inc.php and ~/cfg/jira.cfg.php.

But after an update of the machine TL is running on we got an error message "-24" saying that both the TL db and the jira db where not reachable. After a quite extensive research we changed "hostname" in the above files to "hostname:5500" and voila, everything was fine again.

We haven't figured out yet why the original configuration ran until installing this update (installation of VMWare tools).
