Question concerning usage of platforms and builds

Post by smokeythebear »

Hi,

Is there any possibility to add platforms to builds? The way i have structured my project is:

Test Project: The current product i want tested
Test plan: The current products test plan for instance "Snickers website regression test"
Builds: The settings the current "Snickers website regression test" is going to run under plus version, example Rev 1001 -- Firefox 3.6 Flash 10.0 - Resolution 1280x1024 - Operating System PC

I do this in order to do multiple tests of platforms on the same build, for instance i can create multiple builds without creating multiple testplans for instance:

Rev 1001 -- Firefox 3.6 Flash 10.0 - Resolution 1280x1024 - Operating System PC
Rev 1001 -- Internet explorer 9.0 Flash 11.0 - Resolution 1280x1024 - Operating System LINUX
Rev 1001 -- Firefox 3.6 Flash 9.0 - Resolution 1280x1024 - Operating System MAC

So my question is really is there another way to do this that is more by the book using platforms?

1. Did you try and see all the options available in testlink by navigating?

2. Did you search in the forums for what you have asked?

Yes i read the whole reply, the first reply before edited lead to a broken link (perhaps something wrong with my browser). I am in no way spamming just looking for help. I clicked the "now" working link and have some questions:

The solution was:

1. Create a test plan and plat forms
2. Then add plat form to test plan
3. Whle ading test cases to test plan you can select the plat form, and build

This was not the question. Imagine the following scenario, i have one regression test (testplan) i want to run several builds with multiple platform settings but still the testcases included in one regression test testplan and display the results individually. I dont know if you understand my dilemma if not please let me know.

In the ideal world it would work like this, in platform you set the different platform criterias, what brower or os or whatever. When you create a build you select wich platform criterias it will run. I belive this would be the ideal way to do it.

TL will do not work this way, and we do not plan to add a level of complexity allowing test case to be assigned to testplan, platform and build.
You can do the trick leaving on build test case without tester assigned.

And why not may i ask? not to be rude but this seems the logical way to work. I am not talking about allowing a testcase being assigned to testplan platform or build.
I am talking about assigning criterias (platforms) to wich the build is run under. You can do it today by just naming the build title to the criterias but it is not the most
lean and correct way to do it.

For most instances this how you do test execution, especially when working with multiple testers under different conditions using the same testplan but different
configurations.

nobody has said you can not ask, I have informed you we will not plan to implement it.

IMHO you are asking to assign testcases to touple (testplan, platform, build), and TL only allows assign to couple (testplan, platform).
In addition I have suggested a way to work.
