Custom Fields of type 'date' configuration

Hi everyone,
Does anybody know how I could display and chose in a 'date' Custom Field also previous years and not only values which start from the current year + 2. For example I want to point to the year 2014 or even older but only get the option in the year dropdown of 2015, 2016 and 2017. Please help...thanks in advance!

P.S. I saw that these things are defined in the 'date_api.php' file but I'm not exactly sure how to alter it in order to obtain what I want.
