Custom field values are not sticky

I have a custom field of list type. While executing test cases when I set a value for these fields, set value is not saved, the value goes back to the first value in the list.
I'm using 1.7.4. Please advise if If there's a solution. Thanks for your help.

2. if is an issue you have to use mantis
3. no fixes will be done for 1.7.x => migrate to 1.8 RC5
