Terms Test Suite and Test Plan

Post by mhalttu »

Hi!

I'm working with Finnish translation, and I have some problems with terms.

As far as I can see, terms 'Test Suite' and 'Test Plan' are used as synonyms. Is that correct? Or is there something that i cannot understand...

Test Case Suite is also something very hardo to understand, as far as I can see, it means only test cases within test suite/plan. Is this correct?

So far I have working Finnish version on my computer. I'd say 90% of strings.txt is translated.

That mess with terms occur because of whole mess in testing terminology. Try to find some local glossary from for ex. university on the internet and use strictly only one version of terminology. And always remeber to translate in clear and easy to understand way for people who will read that. I've done that with the polish translation.

Good luck with help contents :) , so far I can see you almost finish strings.txt .

Test Suite is a collection of Test cases. In addition this terms is used instead of components and categories in 1.7 (not only within a Test Plan).
Test plan defines what to test, terms, resources, documentation, etc. (not all is supported by TL).

There is some old terms in testlink from historical reasons. I continuously try to change these terms to common terms defined by IEEE or British society. I thought also about to create some database of terms with explanation ... however I'm too busy :-( Of course if I will see that it helps I can assign higher priority to this task ;-) Hopefully you can help me.
