Thanks to edias now I know how to perform export from Excel to Testlink easily:
Excel to TestLink XML HOW TO:
1. You just need to create 1 or 2 testcases on using GUI.
2. Then export those testcases, the exported file is testcases.xml.
3. Open that .xml file with MS Excel.
4. When you open it, choose the option "Use the XML source task pane".
5. Then you will see the XML map in XML Source window.
6. Click and drag the elements to the excel sheet.
7. Eg. if you want name to be your first column, click and drag "name" element to 1A grid so that the column A will be "name" column.
Hi, UI is changed in excel 2007 you need to import from the source option i guess... wait here you gooo you need to folloow the following steps
1. open excel > navigate to "Data" now from the option "from other source" you can have rom XML data import, and rest of things are as usal.
I have written a macro that will generate the xml required for Requirements as well as test cases. I can share it with you all. Please let me know how to attach files here.
Today I opened my xls file and saw that all my records are empty.I entered in google and found there-excel 2007 corrupt file recovery msdn.Program to my surprise solved my issues in seconds and without payment. Moreover I saw how tool can open any file of xls format that is not accessible by Microsoft Excel.
I got to step 7 above. When i try to save the file i get the following error. 'Cannot save or export the XML data. The XML maps in the workbook are not exportable'

I am testing this on a new installation of TestLink, for evaluation purposes. Extremely frustrating time, and i havne't even turned it over to users yet.
The macro from gk1981 for test cases works (except steps are not imported). I fiddled slightly with the VBA to allow one step per case. the macro for requirements has to be imported from Requirement Operations, not from Requirement Specifications. so in requirements you have to create a folder (section) first and then do the import into it, no problem.
And they can be imported in either order, contrary to my earlier observation.
